Mrs. Bettye Mae West, 73 of Fairfax, Virginia, was born January 25, 1945 in Leesville, South Carolina and passed away to glory on October 31, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Isabell Jeffcoat and Benjamin Norris and the granddaughter of the late Lela Corder Jeffcoat and Benjamin Jeffcoat of Leesville, South Carolina.
At an early age, Bettye joined the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Leesville, South Carolina. She was a 1963 graduate from Twin City High School in Batesburg, South Carolina. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Lorenzo West, Jr. in 1966; a union which produced one son, Reginald Shawn West. Bettye attended Bergen Technical College. She was a longtime employee of the Paid Prescriptions Pharmaceutical Company in Paramus, New Jersey before retiring to become a full-time homemaker. Bettye joined Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1981 where she served on the Willing Workers Committee. After relocating from New Jersey to Virginia, she became a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church led by Reverend Doctor Eugene Johnson in Centreville, Virginia in 2008 where she remained a member until her death. She was a devoted wife, beloved mother, and cherished oldest sibling. Bettye was a woman of God, who enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, and decorating for the holidays.
She is survived by: one son, Reginald West of Fairfax, Virginia; two brothers, James Robert Jeffcoat and Billy Jeffcoat; three sisters, Barbara Ann Jeffcoat, Priscilla Jeffcoat and Sylvia Jeffcoat; an “adopted brother,” Tommy Jeffcoat; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Hare-West; six brothers-in-law, Joseph West, Larry West, Richard West, Major West, Sylvester West and Melvin West; 75 nieces and nephews, one God-daughter, Miss Christina McDaniel and a host of other relatives and friends.
