SSG (Ret.) Clyde Winston Rucker, 86, son of the late Samuel and Lula Gaines Rucker, was born in Oconee County, South Carolina on March 23, 1932. He departed this earthly life on Friday, May 25, 2018 in Lexington, South Carolina. He was first married to the late Virginia Rucker. After her passing, he met and married Murene Rucker.
SSG Rucker was a graduate of Alexander Hamilton High School in New York. He enlisted in the U.S. Army soon after graduation. He retired from the U.S. Army on October 27, 1995. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal on November 2, 1995 for his outstanding service as a Signal System Maintenance Sergeant. He also served in the National Guard. SSG Rucker was also employed by the New York City Transit Authority from which he also retired after 25 years of service at the 5th Avenue Depot, Brooklyn, New York.
SSG Rucker attended Saint Matthew CME Church, Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina after relocating to South Carolina. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Frederick Dozier.
Those left to cherish his precious memories include: his loving wife – Murene Rucker of the home; two daughters – Donna Rucker of Brooklyn, New York and Caroline Rucker of Charlotte, North Carolina; two stepdaughters – Pamela Smith of Smyrna, Georgia and Paula Dozier of Falls Church, Virginia; one stepson – Gary Dozier of Poughkeepsie, New York; six grandchildren – Tashanda Rucker, Taniqua Maxwell, Taquia Maxwell, Shakira Maxwell, Sharisse Maxwell and MiKayla Woolery; two step-grandsons – Brian Dozier and Brandon Dozier; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.
