Robert Shepherd Obituary

Mr. Robert Kenneth Shepherd, 63, son of the late Robert and Ernestine Shepherd and the late Atherine Shepherd McDaniel, was born January 26, 1956 in Columbia, South Carolina.  After a lengthy illness, God called him home on Friday, December 6, 2019 from his earthly home surrounded by family and friends.

"Shep", as he was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Lexington County District 3, graduating from Batesburg-Leesville High School, Class of 1974.  He joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.  He later joined Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board and was a member of the Tabernacle Male Chorus.  He recently rejoined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he attended until his health began to decline.  He was married to Sandra Langford Shepherd.

Shep loved all sports.  His favorite football team was the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He was also a LA Lakers and USC Gamecocks fan.  He played 3rd base with the Leesville All Stars Softball Team for many years.  He was also a pitcher for the Leesville Golden Eagles Baseball Team and played for the Sandhill Rattlers.  His coached football at the Brodie Road Park and also coached a recreation league basketball team called the Tarheels.

Shep was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tony Trapp.  He leaves to cherish his precious memories:  a loving and devoted wife – Sandra Shepherd of the home; two daughters – Shawanda Shepherd and Fayon Langford (Averan Reed), both of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; two sons – David Langford and Quinton Langford (LaMeeka Felix), both of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; ten grandchildren – Destinee Langford, DaZuna Lott, Alanna Langford, Ayanna Langford, Marquis Langford, Amari Langford, Kenyatta Jones, Khennedi Langford, Kylin Langford and Kwincy Merritt; six brothers – Andrew (Rosa) Parrish and Angelo (Diane) Trapp, both of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina, Andrew (Felicia) Trapp of Georgia, Mike (Deborah) Trapp, Steven Strowder and Jake (Lynette) McDaniel; four sisters – Alice McDaniel (Vince Liles), Toreitha Shepherd-Hendrix and Jackie McDaniel-Tilley, all of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina and Vickie Hall of Columbia, South Carolina; a God-daughter – Shaneque Jackson of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; a mother-in-law – Elease Langford of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; three sisters-in-law – Debra Langford and Monica Langford (Eddie Frank Gortman), both of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina and Sheron Langford of Eastover, South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
