Sylvester Coleman was born in the County of Lexington, South Carolina on May 2, 1954. His parents were the late Gussie and Vestula Coleman. Sylvester was educated at Twin City School.
Ever adventurous, as a young man, Sylvester left South Carolina for the big city of New York; where his late sisters Bennie May Bryant, Beatrice Jamon and one of his late brothers Cleaveland Coleman resided.
He was also the brother of the late Walter, Robert and Fred Coleman, Dorothy Maddox and Mary Ervine. His last place of employment was at Claridge House in New York City in the position as a doorman for many years. It was at the Claridge House where he met his wife Eileen. They were married on April 3, 1998. On Friday, April 26 at 6:55 a.m., Sylvester fell asleep in death.
He will be missed by his wife Eileen; son Jerome, daughter Shanda and stepson Henry who lives in Barbados.
As well as his grandchildren: Demariana, Darius and Lashandra. His sister and her husband, Minnie and Rev. Ricky Long; sister-in-law Lutricia Coleman; his niece and her husband Belinda and Charlie Holmes; Close friends Kenneth Padgett and James Cooke; sister-in-law Arleen Grimes; brothers-in-law Jeffrey Grimes and Mark Rutledge, both of New York City, Jeffrey Carter, Anthony and Tyrone Lloyd and John Smith, all of Barbados; many nieces and nephews in Batesburg-Leesville, New York, Virginia and Barbados.
