Thessalonia (Summers) Cook

December 6, 1933 ~ December 10, 2019 (age 86)

Mrs. Thessalonia Summers Cook was born in Gilbert, South Carolina on December 6, 1932 to the late George W. Summers and Myrtle Wheeler Summers.  Thessalonia lived in Gilbert all of her life.  In her early life, she worked at Lexington Sportswear.  When she retired, she began working as an aide for the special needs children for Lexington School District 1 for 23 years.

She met and married the late Adam George Cook and together they had nine children.  She was preceded in death by one son, Woodrow Cook.

Thessalonia was a long-time and loyal member of the Mt. Olive CME Church of Lexington, South Carolina where she sung on the senior choir and served as a missionary.  “Bea” is the name that all of her children and grands called her.  She was well known for her spiffy dressing and those famous hats!

She leaves to cherish her precious memories:  five daughters – Rosa Mae McIntyre of Columbia, South Carolina, Bessie Ann Cook of Columbia, South Carolina, Debra Jane Cook of Gilbert, South Carolina, Doris Yvonne Cook of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina, Phyllis Mae Cook Humphrey and son-in-law, Kent Humphrey of Ridge Spring, South Carolina; three sons – Randy Edward Cook and Anthony Cook, both of Charlotte, North Carolina and Donnie Leon Cook of Gilbert, South Carolina; one sister-in-law – Aileen Cook; twelve grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
