Deacon Claude Carter, Sr., 93 of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina made his heavenly transition on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Lexington Extended Care Facility. Born September 7, 1926 in Saluda County, he was son of the late Berry and Hattie Banks Carter.
Deacon Carter was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon for many years. He was employed by Burlington Industries where he retired after 30 years of employment. He was well known in the Batesburg-Leesville community. He was a man who worked hard, never bemoaning life, always accepting how things were and enjoying the very moment. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and sharing his words of wisdom. As only Claude would say, “There’s a man sittin up high and he’s lookin down low, you just keep on living”.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Arlee Carter; three sons, Claude Carter, Jr., Lenard Carter and Roy Allen Carter; three sisters, Alberta Lewis, Eunice Tolen and Hessie Long; two brothers, James “Anjenois” Carter and Daniel Carter.
Those left to cherish his precious memories include: three devoted sons – Reverend Charles (Nedra) Carter of West Columbia, South Carolina, Troy Carter of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Bobby (Martha) Dozier of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; one loving daughter – Phyllis “Dimp” Carter of Columbia South Carolina; one brother – Jefferson Davis “J.D.” Carter of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; sixteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends that will sorely miss him.
