Frances Smith Long, 79, was born to the late Annie Mae “Mamie” Harris Smith and the late Emitt Smith on December 31, 1943 in Lexington County, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina.
Frances graduated from Twin City High School, Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina in 1961. She lived most of her adult life in Queens, New York, returning to South Carolina when the health of her parents was failing. She was married to the late Benson A. Long. She was predeceased by her baby daughter, Georgina Smith Foulks last year. She was also predeceased by six brothers, John Henry, Thomas, Willie James, Emitt Jr., Roosevelt and Leroy Smith. She was a member of Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Batesburg-Leesville.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: three daughters, Brenda (Kelvin) Lindsay of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina, Shirley (Danny) Wise of Lexington, South Carolina and Debbie (Charles) Crews of Charlotte, North Carolina; one sister, Mary Hair of the home; three brothers, Carl (Shirley) Smith of Manhattan, New York, James (Judy) Smith of Monetta, South Carolina and Joseph (Liz) Smith of Tacoma, Washington; six grandchildren, Corey (Amber) Wise, Kristina (Mike) Lorick, Kym Smith, Bree Wise, Malik Haltiwanger and Zachary Haltiwanger; four great-grandchildren, Jackson Lorick, Corey “CJ” Wise, Gianni Gist and Jagger Lorick, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends who will miss her dearly.
