Howard Garvin

Howard Garvin, 80, passed away peacefully at his home on January 7, 2023.  He was born April 5, 1942 in Batesburg, SC.  Howard was the fourth of 14 children born to the late James Wesley and Rachel Perry Garvin.  He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, grandson, Gabriel; brothers and sisters; James Jr., Eddie Frank, Garry, Stella and Rachel.

Howard was baptized at Chinquapin Baptist Church at a young age in his hometown, and was a graduate of Ridge Hill High School in Ridge Spring, SC.  He joined, served and received an honorable discharge from the United States Army.  He resided and worked in both Queens, New York and in the city of San Francisco, California for many years.  He retired in 2002 and he was grateful for the opportunity to come back home to Batesburg to live out his golden years.

Howard enjoyed his retirement talking to his much-loved grandchildren, taking long daily walks, reading and gardening, as he happily shared his produce and fruits with his family, neighbors and friends.  He practiced doing everything with honesty and integrity.

We thank God for the love we all shared with Howard and his love for us.  We will miss him on this side of Jordan. “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you: and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.” (Isaiah 43:2)

Surviving and cherishing his memories are his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Ketrica of Lemoore, California; his adoring grandchildren, James and Avery of Lemoore, California; sisters, Johnnie Mae, Barbara, Betty, Margie, Vivian and Wanda and brothers, Larry and Richard.  In addition, his former wife, Georgia Garvin; in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors all share in remembering the life and times of Howard Garvin.

Private services will be held.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
