Javis Mayers Obituary

Javis Jerome Mayers, 47, was born on March 27, 1974 to Larry Bookman and Diane Roberts in Newberry County, South Carolina.  He departed this earthly life Sunday, September 12, 2021.

Javis was a graduate of Chapin High School, Class of 1993.  He played high school football for the Chapin Eagles.  Javis was an avid fan of the New York Knicks, San Francisco 49ers, and Lady Gamecocks.  Javis loved listening to his music.  Family and friends know him for two of his favorite sayings: “J gon be alright” and “J don’t play no games”.  Javis was a devoted husband, loving brother and son.  He found joy being in the company of his family and friends, and his love for them was undeniable.  Javis was a member of Providence AME Church, Little Mountain, South Carolina.

Javis was preceded in death by his sister, Little Diane; maternal grandparents, Emmanuel and Mary Esther Mayers; paternal grandparents, Leroy and Louise Bookman and niece, Imani Mayers.

Those left to cherish his precious memories include:  his loving wife – Tara Hill Mayers of the home; his parents – Diane Roberts and Tyrone Roberts of Chapin, South Carolina; father – Larry Bookman of Little Mountain, South Carolina; sister – Tamirah Mayers of Chapin, South Carolina; four brothers – Raheem Mayers of Irmo, South Carolina, Christopher Reese of Prosperity, South Carolina,  Malik Newborn of Lake City, Florida and Tequi Davis of Irmo, South Carolina; three brothers-in-law – Reginald (LaChana) Hill of Suffolk, Virginia, Nathan (Tonia) Hill of Lexington, South Carolina and Keith Jerry of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; three sisters-in-law – Nicole Hill of Lexington, South Carolina, Essica Hill and Kersha (Tommie) Etheredge, both of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; nieces – McKenzie and McKenlei Mayers, Octavia Starks, Jasmine (Dante) Stewart, Taylor Hill, Arden Etheredge, Jada Etheredge and Joclyn Young; nephews – Javis Toland, Darius Hill, Javon Hill and Reginald “Drew” Hill; a very special person dear to his heart – Jalazia Belton; two close friends - Bryan Clark and Joe Meggett; a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
