Mrs. Mary A. Landy, 91, daughter of the late Robert Lee Jay and Gertrude Jay, was born Christmas day, December 25, 1928 in Saluda County, South Carolina. After a beautiful life, God called her home on Friday, July 3, 2020 from Carolina Gardens Assisted Living Facility in West Columbia, South Carolina.
Mrs. Landy was educated in the public schools of Lexington County, South Carolina, graduating from Twin City High School. At an early age, she joined Christian Chapel FBH Church where she was a lifelong member. She was Mother of the Church and served in other capacities when she was able such as President of the Usher Board, Sunday school secretary and lead singer of the Adult Choir. She was married to the late Powell Landy, Sr.
Mrs. Landy was employed by Burlington Industries until her retirement.
Mrs. Landy was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband and three sons, Frankie Landy, Michael Landy and Powell Landy, Jr.
Those left to cherish her precious memories include: one loving daughter – Sarah L. Griffin of Aiken County, South Carolina; one loving son – Keith (Barbara) Landy of Aiken County, South Carolina; two daughters-in-law – Elma Landy of Aiken County, South Carolina and Janice P. Landy of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; two sisters – Minnie Meachum of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Gertrude Gantt of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; one brother-in-law – Ned West, Jr. of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many sorrowing friends.
