Pearlie Peeples Obituary

Mrs. Pearlie Mae Peeples departed this earthly life on Monday, March 2, 2020, after an extended illness.  Born on November 22, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William C. Gary and the late Della Mae Gary.

Mrs. Peeples was educated in the public schools of Lexington County, South Carolina.  She was a member of St. John C.M.E. Church in Batesburg- Leesville, South Carolina for over forty years.  She worked as a faithful Local & District Missionary, a dedicated Stewardess, Sunday School Superintendent, Board of Christian Education and Formation, Commission of Membership & Evangelism, and assisted in the kitchen. She was also responsible for ensuring that the inside of the church was ready for worship.

Mrs. Peeples retired from Lexington County School District One after working over twenty-five years.  She worked in her vegetable garden and volunteered with Meals on Wheels until her health declined.

She was first married to the late Jasper Davis and from their union they had six children.  Later in life, she married the late Lucius Peeples.  Mrs. Peeples was preceded in death by her daughter, Ella Wee Davis, her son, Lawrence Jerome Davis, her brother, Robert Gary, Sr., and her sister, Berthain (Lum) Allen.

Those left to celebrate her precious memories are:  four sons – Jerry (Cellastine) Gary of Gilbert, South Carolina, Henry J. (Norma) Davis of Summit, South Carolina, Herbert (Josephine) Davis of Columbia, South Carolina and Larry (Jan) Davis of Saluda, South Carolina; one special daughter – Patrice Jones of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; one sister-in-law – Doretha Jones of Gilbert, South Carolina; a special caregiver – Lavet Allen of Columbia, South Carolina; eighteen grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
