Mrs. Willie Mae Mathis Lytes, 87, daughter of the late Clev and Essie Hall Mathis, was born on January 29, 1935 in the town of Myrtle Beach in Horry County, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Lexington Extended Care, Lexington, South Carolina.
Willie Mae was educated in the public schools of Lexington County, graduating from Twin City High School. She was married to the late Willie Henry Lytes, Sr. To this union, they were the parents of twelve children. She was employed by Rikard’s Nursing Home, presently known as Lexington Extended Care.
Willie Mae was a homemaker and cared for many children in the Batesburg-Leesville area. She joined St. James CME Church but due to her declining health, she was unable to attend in recent years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a special cousin who was more like a sister, the late Ruby Mae Abney.
Those left to cherish her precious memories include: twelve children – Dana (Donald) Miller, Cheryl Corley, John Corley, Sandra (Jesse) Pixley, Willie Jean Lytes, Willie Henry Lytes, Jr., Tyrone (Christine) Lytes, Sharon Lytes, Allen Pickens, James Lytes, Joseph Lytes and Darryl Williams; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
