Mrs. Willie Bea Taylor, sixth child of the late Mr. Willie Draft and Mrs. Essie Lee Summers Draft was born on November 21, 1922 in Lexington County, South Carolina. She transitioned from earth to glory on Wednesday, January, 13, 2021 at 1:45 a.m. at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care in Lexington, South Carolina. She was surrounded virtually by family members several hours and days before, laughing and talking with them.
She was married to Mr. Robert “Scooter” Taylor who preceded her in death in 1980.
She attended Lexington County Schools and became a professional housekeeper for Dr. Steele and his family. At an early age she became a faithful member of Spring Hill AME Church where she joined the Usher Board.
Mrs. Taylor was passionate about children and had a special bond with her niece Loretta. She also gathered at the house on 107 Grey Street with all her nieces and nephews talking about life and her experiences growing up. She was the driver and took “Mama” (grandmother) places like the grocery store, shopping over in Columbia and visiting different churches for revival services.
She enjoyed watching television in her den and reading Good Housekeeping, Look, Ladies Home Journal and collecting photo albums. She enjoyed having family talent shows with dancing and singing some of her favorite tunes “Wade in the Water” and “I Know I’ve been Changed” and challenging a family member to a dance-off while saying “shake it but don’t break it”. A strict disciplinarian, she was known for exclaiming, “You can’t run from me, I’m your Aunt Willie Bea”.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a brother, Mr. Charles W. Draft and sister-in-law, Dorothy; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends and acquaintances.
